She knows it’s almost worthless, but manages to keep a straight face. Christine looks at it, and nearly chuckles at the Dodge Stone, glistening in the candlelight. Almost as an afterthought, he throws in a small gleaming trinket. The Caretaker fishes around in his pockets before throwing out a writ to finance the winner’s next expedition. The Caretaker and Christine scowl, but otherwise keep their thoughts hidden. The Collector throws in someone’s head in a bag.
Christine sees it, and raises it a few more. The polyp to the Shambler’s left throws in a few chips. Everyone looks at their cards, and the Caretaker makes sure the Shambler isn’t using its polyps to cheat again.
The Caretaker, representing the House, places the first bid and deals out all of the cards. The Caretaker, the Shambler, the Vestal Christine, and the Collector are all huddled around the table, playing poker. While that is probably the most feasible explanation, I am literally just imagining the shambler casually playing cards in the gambling hall right now and you can’t stop me. #did she win that off the caretaker or something
